"BRAIN" was founded in October 1986 as a legally approved corporation, inheriting whole properties and activities of the previous governmental corporation IAM which made a speciality of researches and tests for the promotion of agricultural mechanization in Japan. Beside these activities for agricultural mechanization, the new Institution meets also the contemporary national needs to stimulate and promote biotechnological researches in private enterprises, and this is being attained through investment and accommodating loans by BRAIN.
|
The technical departments of the Institution are granted, as a whole, to be cited as IAM even after the establishment of the Institution, and IAM still assumes the principal role in the domain of researches and tests on agricultural machinery as a sole and competent organization in the Country.
In October 1988, IAM reorganized itself into a fresh lineup to augment its technical potential in fundamental and initiative researches. In 1993, it also embarked on the technical development of progressive agricultural machinery, including agricultural labor robots, in accordance with the revision of the Agricultural Mechanization Promotion Act.
In Research Departments of IAM, emphasis is placed on advanced researches which correspond to recent technical renovations and to social impacts for the abatement of costs of agricultural products. In particular, a high performance rice planter, a combine harvester for multiple crops, and grafting equipment, which are notable fruits of the recent development, have drawn attention as significant advances in agricultural machinery for the 21st century.
Testing and Evaluation Department occupies highest level in technical faculties and facilities for testing :thus BRAIN is legally designated as the executive organization of National Tests, and is also approved as a Designated Test Station for OECD tests in Japan according to the 'OECD Standard Codes for the Official Testing of Agricultural Tractors'. This department is in charge of Safety Checks and other Appraisal activities too.
IAM also provides technical guidance, services for international cooperation including acceptance of foreign trainees, and publicity services.
